Slimmer This Summer July 5th 2011

Okay, I saw the theme of Debbi's post this week is "Stick With It."  I have to say this past week has been really hard to keep on track.  There are a couple of reasons for this.

Writing down what I eat and recording it on my blog had been getting easier, then I sort of lost it.  I was getting frustrated at trying to add it into Spark People and having to add food all the time because the site didn't have the food I ate.  So I sort of gave up on Spark People, which I really don't want to do, because I need to know how many calories I am consuming (I'll explain below).  I have also been really unfocused this past week.  My mind has been elsewhere and I have been exhausted.  I mean really exhausted.  I have been taking naps in the afternoon and there are nights where I just haven't felt like taking my walk.

The last two nights we got home really late.  On Sunday we went to a Soccer game in Rochester, a couple of hours away.  And last night we went to see the fireworks. We actually got home later than planned because we had found someone's cell phone and decided to wait at a nearby town for them to come and pick it up.  Unfortunately we stopped outside a McDonald's and we were hungry.  How nice of them to just recently be open 24 hours.

Anyway, the reason I have been so tired and have been eating before bed is that we just found out I am pregnant.  I feel so guilty for not being extremely happy with this news.  I knew we wanted to try for another baby (especially because hubby would love a boy), but I so wanted to be closer to my goal weight.  On the plus side, I am 20 some pounds lighter than I was before getting pregnant the last time.  And I am eating better and exercising more.  I hope to keep up the walks if nothing else.  The biggest problem is I have to eat before bed.  If I get too hungry I get so nauseous.  When I started this weight loss journey, one of my goals was to not eat after dinner.  This was because during the last pregnancy I had to eat and the best thing I found to help was soft pretzels with muenster cheese.  We got into such a habit of eating these, that we just continued on months after Hannah was born.  I'm sure it was a big thing that added to the weight gain.

My doctor said I can eat 1800 calories and continue to exercise.  And I can continue to drink my 1 cup of green tea.  I had read there was controversy over green tea consumption and pregnancy.  I guess green tea, too much of it, can inhibit the absorption of folic acid, which is so critical in the early weeks for neural tube growth.  I actually stopped drinking it (even though I only drink one cup a day) for a while, just to be safe.  Then I will go back to it, because it is good when it comes to antioxidants.

I am hoping to continue to link up to Slimmer this Summer, Weight Loss Wednesdays and Plus Size Bloggers.  I need the motivation I get and the accountability.  Obviously I am not trying to lose weight right now.  But I am going to continue to try eating healthy and exercising.  I know from past experience, it is not always as easy as it sounds.  Sometimes I just have to eat what I can stomach and it is not always the healthier choices (i.e. the soft pretzels).

Sort of sad I won't be making my 15 pound loss goal.  I was heading in the right direction.

  1. Congratulations! Babies are a great way to start people. Things work out. I was so tired when I was pregnant. I know how you feel. Work with your doctor and don't use pregnancy as an excuse to completely lose control and you will be fine.

  3. Congratulations!! That's great news! Though I can understand what you mean about feeling down about it because of the weight. If you keep eating healthy and doing your walks, you can at least avoid gaining additional weight yourself (you know, the weight that's not because you're pregnant) ... let the baby be the one to gain all the weight. :)

Even though you won't be able to meet your 15 pound weight loss goal now, you'll be set to lose that and more once the baby is born.

    Good luck!
