Blogging Through the Alphabet: F is for Frustrated

I am just so frustrated with myself. I can't seem to stick to any plan to get healthy. I start each week with high hopes and big plans only to sabotage them myself within the first day or two. The Biggest Loser Challenge with our Weight Loss Accountability Group has come to the end of round 1, but I haven't lost near as much as I had hoped for.

Beginning weight Feb 1st: 262.6
March 2nd weight: 258.2
March 29th weight: 247.8
Final weight for BLC Round 1 April 27th: 246.3

I lost a total of 16.3 pounds. While I am happy that my weight is decreasing, I was really hoping for quite a bit more than this. The week that I had actually juiced every day, I lost 7 pounds. Granted that is a little too big when it comes to healthy weight loss, but I would love to see some bigger numbers.

I know it is not going to fall off itself. I have to get up early enough to exercise. I need to stop making excuses when it comes to not making my salads for lunch and my juice for dinner.

I would have much rather have posted about how I was "fight[ing] the fat" as the boxing trainer tells me on WiiFit Plus. So, here is to another round of Biggest Loser Challenge Weight Loss Accountability Group version. Hoping for a good week with exercising, eating and weighing in.

Weekly Weigh In- June Tune Up/Weight Loss Wednesdays- 6/13/12

June Tune-Up Challenge

Not sure if you read last week's post, but I mentioned how last week's weight loss helped me psychologically. Unfortunately this weeks weight GAIN also impacted me psychologically. I know I snacked more this past week and didn't meet most of my goals. And then I got upset and really snacked today. Wondering if I will ever learn. Here's to a better week.
Here are my goals for June. Let's see how I did.
Green = success
Red= Failure
  1. No snacking after dinner. (Only exception is Saturday for movie and popcorn night.)
  2. Get to bed by 11:00 or soon thereafter depending on baby.
  3. Get moving somehow everyday.
  4. Dessert at lunch is fruit.
  5. Dessert at dinner is a healthy snack. Like today we had graham crackers and fat free cool whip.
  6. I will allow myself a unhealthy dessert once or twice a week (if I am making something with the girls.)
  7. I will write down everything I eat. I am not going to attempt to sit down and figure out my calories at this point. But I will keep a record of what I eat.
Didn't drink my tea every day and my water consumption wasn't as good. Guess I know why I gained weight. Thing is, I didn't expect to gain almost ALL of it back.  Grrrrr.

So, my starting weight for this summer of weight loss is 242.1

Last week's weight was 238.5

This week's weight is

I gained 2.9 pounds.
I am now 19.5 pounds lighter than my highest weight in Dec of 2010.
And I never did get my measurements.

Weekly Weigh In- June Tune Up/Weight Loss Wednesdays

June Tune-Up Challenge

I did it, I did it!!

Not sure how, but I lost 3.5 pounds this past week. Well, I guess I have some ideas, but I didn't do anything drastic (I can't seeing as I am nursing). My biggest hope was that I stop gaining weight by making my small changes I outlined last week in my goals. I know I can't keep up this pace with these small changes, but this felt good and helped a great deal psychologically.

I haven't done a good job getting my meals written down, but I have been more conscious of what I have been eating. I have started measuring out my food as best I can. The only problem is, it really does take longer to make a meal this way, especially taking into account that I am making meals for the 3 girls and a hubby while trying to get it all done before the baby starts crying again.

Here are my goals for June. Let's see how I did.
Green = success
Red= Failure
  1. No snacking after dinner. (Only exception is Saturday for movie and popcorn night.)
  2. Get to bed by 11:00 or soon thereafter depending on baby.
  3. Get moving somehow everyday.
  4. Dessert at lunch is fruit. Most of the time
  5. Dessert at dinner is a healthy snack. Like today we had graham crackers and fat free cool whip.
  6. I will allow myself a unhealthy dessert once or twice a week (if I am making something with the girls.) We had ice cream the other night but there was such a small amount we also had a graham cracker and cool whip.
  7. I will write down everything I eat. I am not going to attempt to sit down and figure out my calories at this point. But I will keep a record of what I eat.
Let's see, what else did I do. I also added my one morning cup of green tea and started drinking my 2 cups of water before a meal. Okay, okay, I know I should have already been drinking sufficient water because of breastfeeding, but I keep forgetting. Making myself have the 2 cups before a meal helps me to insure I get it in, plus it helps curb the snacking while eating. I have done some snacking between meals (so glad I didn't make a goal not to), but usually it was only if I was hungry. I couldn't believe how hungry I was getting without all the snacking.

This week, over at Weight Loss Wednesdays the topic is Summer. I am not sure how I am going to do this summer. Two summers ago is when I was gaining weight after having Hannah. Then I lost weight between Dec of that year and May of 2011. Last summer I was pregnant. It's going to be fun seeing how the summer will go. We will get outside to the park and for walks (as long as it decides to stop raining...today is hopeful), but I am not sure what else I will do yet.

So, my starting weight for this summer of weight loss is 242.1

Down to 238.5
Weight loss- 3.6 pounds!!

I am now 22.4 pounds lighter than my highest weight in Dec of 2010.
Now I just need to get my measurements.

Time to Refocus and Get Healthy

I hadn't realized it had been so long since I had posted on this poor neglected blog. So, I guess it is time for a little update. Baby Harold was born Feb 17th via c-section. Yes, that is 3 1/2 months ago. Would you like to see a picture of him?

So, he is now 3 1/2 months old and I am almost as heavy as I was when I went in to have him. NOT what I wanted to do. I have tried talking myself into eating better and getting off my duff to exercise, but I just haven't  had the motivation. I am not sure what happened yesterday, but suddenly I was looking for weight loss challenges on blogs again, because I know that accountability and little bit of competition are what helped me before. I know I can't lose a whole heck of a lot too fast as I am nursing, but eating the junk food is one of my big downfalls right now and that isn't great for the baby anyway. So, I figured, if I start eating healthier, don't snack and get moving I will not have any adverse effects on the nursing as it is what I should be doing anyway. And it should lead to weight loss. At least I hope so, seeing as I am joining in on one challenge with a partner.

Anyway, a little bit of a summary of my weight ups and downs.

I was at my lowest weight on July 11, 2011- 217 pounds exactly.
I started gaining weight with the pregnancy. Gaining a bit more than I wanted to because of the inability to exercise how I wanted to and eating poorly.
Right before the baby was born I weighed in at 246.3 (ouch! The only good thing is I didn't get near as heavy as I did with Hannah. I had been up to 261 with her.)
I lost a good bit giving birth. When I weighed myself when I got home I was down to 228.6.
I had one more week of loss-225.1 before I started gaining weight.
I went from 225.1 to 245.2 between February 27th and May 28th. I was averaging about 2 pounds of weight GAIN a week. That is worse than when I was pregnant for crying out loud.

I think seeing these numbers and realizing where I was headed is what brought me to my senses. I refuse to get to the same weight I was when the baby was born. No way, no how. Yes, I was a pound away from being as heavy as I was the day before I went in to have the baby. So, I decided it was time to take action and FAST. Time to find some blog challenges. Time to stop the SNACKING. Time to start MOVING.

I decided I needed to make some small goals. Here are my plans for June. I am so hoping they are going to work.

  1. No snacking after dinner. (Only exception is Saturday for movie and popcorn night.)
  2. Get to bed by 11:00 or soon thereafter depending on baby (yes I know I failed on this tonight).

So, my starting weight for this summer of weight loss is 242.1
I am still 18.8 pounds lighter than my highest weight in Dec of 2010.

Weigh In #10: Plus Size Bloggers Tracking Challenge: Bye Bye Booties! and Slimmer This Summer Check In

It appears that being able to take walks during VBS has helped my weight.  I didn't have a huge loss.  In fact, not much of a loss at all.  But I didn't gain, and that is perfect for me right now.  Especially having to eat the pretzel (and sometimes more) at bedtime.
Before I go any further I thought I would clarify one point.  I have mentioned it in the past, but I have noticed by people's comments that not everyone is aware I am pregnant.  I know, perfect timing, in the middle of  a weight loss challenge.  Even if I lose a little, I know I will not be losing the amount needed for the challenge.  I have come to terms with that.  What I haven't come to terms with is my body's cravings for unhealthy foods and my being unable to down my salads the way I was doing before I got pregnant.  You would think that a pregnant body would be craving the healthy things.  Just doesn't seem fair.
I have to eat before I get out of bed in the morning.  Each pregnancy has been different for me.  Last pregnancy I was eating Crispix.  This time it is Life or Cinnamon Life cereal.  I have to have eggs for breakfast, either scrambled or an egg sandwich.  I've tried doing the 1 egg, 1 egg white, but seem to need both whole eggs.  I usually have some sort of cheese with this and try to get in some spinach or broccoli if I remember, which hasn't been that often lately. Hoping posting this will help me remember to add the veggie.  I have a cup of apple or orange juice with my prenatal vitamins and iron.
Mid-morning I need to have a snack.  I usually grab some sort of granola bar or cereal bar.  Lunch varies, but I miss my big salads, as I have already mentioned. We have pb&j, chicken patties, tuna, chicken nuggets, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, or bologna and cheese. Those are what we alternate through usually.  I try to get some sort of veggie, but most of the time I am making a canned veggie for the children, and as I don't like them very much I try to eat a small salad, but can't even down that.  I have been fortunate to have been able to get some tomatoes out of our garden, though they are tiny due to the lack of rain and intense heat last month.  Sometimes I eat fruit, sometimes not.
I definitely find myself eating too much junk.  I AM trying.  At least hubby limited me to one pretzel  at bedtime this week (I'm talking about the soft frozen pretzels that you have to warm up in the oven. We add a very small amount of salt and 2 thin, thin slices of deli Muenster cheese). That may have helped.  As did the hour long walks while the children were in VBS, I'm sure.

As I said, a small loss.
The great thing is, I still weigh less than I did at the start of my previous pregnancy!

Weigh In #6: Plus Size Bloggers Tracking Challenge: Bye Bye Booties! and Slimmer This Summer Check In

Okay, the late night snacks I need to eat before going to bed and the exhaustion which is keeping me from my late night walks have contributed to a weight gain this week.  Of course the fact that whole grain snacks make me feel nauseous and I gravitate toward the chips and donuts etc didn't help.  I will just have to try to do better next week.  Because this much of a gain is too much even for pregnancy

up 2.4 pounds.

Weigh In #5: Plus Size Bloggers Tracking Challenge: Bye Bye Booties! and Slimmer This Summer Check In

Now that I am pregnant I am obviously not going to be losing 2 or 3 pounds a week.  I am trying to eat the best I can.  At times that is hard because that healthy whole wheat can turn my stomach because it is too dry. So I have an easier job eating food that I know is not that good for me.  Fortunately I haven't had any trouble eating my salads yet, so I do try to get at least one a day.  In fact, the other day we got to try our version of the Wendy's Berry Almond Chicken Salad.  I had seen Debbi post about it a few weeks ago in a post called Salad Power.  Last week I got to try Wendy's version and I really liked it.  I saw that Debbi's recipe calls for raspberries which I didn't have in my Wendy's salad (not sure if I was supposed to or not).  So we had blueberries, strawberries, honey roasted almond slices, some sort of baby lettuce mix (2 cups) and raspberry walnut vinegarette, not sure the brand, but they didn't have the Ken's brand, though they have lots of other Ken's Steakhouse dressings. We added chicken as well.  My son really enjoyed it.  I would like to see if I can find the Ken's dressing as this one tasted a little too vinegary.
We have taken at least one walk a day I think.  I have not done a good job recording anything this week.  I haven't always gotten more than one walk though. And sometimes it is only a slow walk with the children because it is just myself with the girls and one of them needs to walk.  We had 3 late nights last week (soccer game and fireworks were two of them) and I just had no energy for extra walks.  I have not had a lot of energy at all.  Naps in the afternoon.  Only one walk at times.  And it doesn't help that I need to snack before going to bed.
With all that I still lost .4 pounds.

Slimmer This Summer July 5th 2011

Okay, I saw the theme of Debbi's post this week is "Stick With It."  I have to say this past week has been really hard to keep on track.  There are a couple of reasons for this.

Writing down what I eat and recording it on my blog had been getting easier, then I sort of lost it.  I was getting frustrated at trying to add it into Spark People and having to add food all the time because the site didn't have the food I ate.  So I sort of gave up on Spark People, which I really don't want to do, because I need to know how many calories I am consuming (I'll explain below).  I have also been really unfocused this past week.  My mind has been elsewhere and I have been exhausted.  I mean really exhausted.  I have been taking naps in the afternoon and there are nights where I just haven't felt like taking my walk.

The last two nights we got home really late.  On Sunday we went to a Soccer game in Rochester, a couple of hours away.  And last night we went to see the fireworks. We actually got home later than planned because we had found someone's cell phone and decided to wait at a nearby town for them to come and pick it up.  Unfortunately we stopped outside a McDonald's and we were hungry.  How nice of them to just recently be open 24 hours.

Anyway, the reason I have been so tired and have been eating before bed is that we just found out I am pregnant.  I feel so guilty for not being extremely happy with this news.  I knew we wanted to try for another baby (especially because hubby would love a boy), but I so wanted to be closer to my goal weight.  On the plus side, I am 20 some pounds lighter than I was before getting pregnant the last time.  And I am eating better and exercising more.  I hope to keep up the walks if nothing else.  The biggest problem is I have to eat before bed.  If I get too hungry I get so nauseous.  When I started this weight loss journey, one of my goals was to not eat after dinner.  This was because during the last pregnancy I had to eat and the best thing I found to help was soft pretzels with muenster cheese.  We got into such a habit of eating these, that we just continued on months after Hannah was born.  I'm sure it was a big thing that added to the weight gain.

My doctor said I can eat 1800 calories and continue to exercise.  And I can continue to drink my 1 cup of green tea.  I had read there was controversy over green tea consumption and pregnancy.  I guess green tea, too much of it, can inhibit the absorption of folic acid, which is so critical in the early weeks for neural tube growth.  I actually stopped drinking it (even though I only drink one cup a day) for a while, just to be safe.  Then I will go back to it, because it is good when it comes to antioxidants.

I am hoping to continue to link up to Slimmer this Summer, Weight Loss Wednesdays and Plus Size Bloggers.  I need the motivation I get and the accountability.  Obviously I am not trying to lose weight right now.  But I am going to continue to try eating healthy and exercising.  I know from past experience, it is not always as easy as it sounds.  Sometimes I just have to eat what I can stomach and it is not always the healthier choices (i.e. the soft pretzels).

Sort of sad I won't be making my 15 pound loss goal.  I was heading in the right direction.

Weigh In #4: Plus Size Bloggers Tracking Challenge: Bye Bye Booties!

We are a tad bit in a rush today to go to see the fireworks, but I wanted to get my post in because we won't be back until really late.  So, I am just posting my weight with no exercise or explanation or anything.  Will post my Slimmer This Summer post later tonight or tomorrow morning.

I have lost weight since last Monday, though, like last Monday, I am the same as last Wednesday.  What is up with that??

Weigh In #3: Plus Size Bloggers Tracking Challenge: Bye Bye Booties! and Slimmer This Summer Check In

This was definitely a better week.  I have been recording what I eat over at Spark People.  I was really surprised how fast the calories were adding up. I was doing better at the beginning of the week.  (Better eating healthy and better remembering to record.) Last night I messed up, but I didn't realize how many calories and grams of fat were in some of the foods and I misread the package and ate too much of the chocolate rabbit.  I insisted in trying to walk it off though, so we walked about 3 1/2 miles last night.

Here is this week's activity log.  We actually did walk on the 24th, but we didn't get home until after the date changed on the Wii, so it went on the next day's log.  And we haven't walked today yet.  In fact, we will be heading out as soon as I have finished posting.  The 23rd we walked from the library, so only a 10-15 minute walk, but Tabitha was walking too so it was a slow walk.

Here is the last two weeks'. Definitely got more recorded this week.

I have lost weight since last Monday, though, like last Monday, I am the same as last Wednesday.  What is up with that??

Weigh In #2: Plus Size Bloggers Tracking Challenge: Bye Bye Booties! and Slimmer This Summer Check In

I did not have the greatest of weeks, but if you figure in that we had birthday cake and I had 8 cookies on Friday (some at VBS some at home) I guess I could have done worse.  I actually thought I was going to do better because 2 days while Tabitha was in VBS last week, I took Amelia and Hannah on a 1 hour walk around the town we were in.  Unlike our hometown which is flat all the way around, the other town had a few different places with inclines.  The one was quite steep, so I figured I was getting a great workout.  Unfortunately I forgot to record every day again (We come home from our walks and get the girls ready for bed, by the time I remember it is after midnight and you can't go back on the Wii to record in the Activity Log).  I like having it on the Wii, but I guess if I keep forgetting to record it I might just as well write it down before I forget.  Each day this week I at least took a walk around town in the evening, I don't believe we missed once, even on the days I took the hour long walk.  Though one day we only got to go to the bridge and back because of road work.  Here is what I did record.

I can't believe I am still looking at the 220 on the scale.  I did lose weight from last Monday, but it is the same as Wednesday.

Weigh In #1: Plus Size Bloggers Tracking Challenge: Bye Bye Booties! and Slimmer This Summer Check In

I had a pretty good week.  I had a bit of a problem keeping track of my food.  I didn't always remember what I had eaten by the time I got a chance to get on the computer.  I got it as accurate as I could and posted it last night.  My water intake wasn't quite as much as it should have been for the challenge, but I was getting 8 cups in a day.  We took a walk every day this week, I believe.  If hubby was home we usually got in an extra walk after the children were in bed (big brother was here in case of problems), and if he was working I usually took turns with Steven stepping/jogging on the Wii Board for 30 minutes while watching tv.  Don't let the picture confuse you, I forgot to get on the Wii a few days.  Oops

I was thrilled to see a loss this week.  I was so close to 220 I bought myself that outfit I had thought abut buying for my birthday.  Yep, two months later than I wanted to, but I am looking at 220 on the scale.  I realize it is .8 more, but I am thrilled that I am losing again.  I am so thankful for these challenges.

Slimmer This Summer and Bye Bye Booties Starting Info and Goals

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. I'm so excited that the summer challenges are about to start up.  Monday is the official start day.  It's going to be a summer of healthy choices, getting more active, eating healthy and motivating others.

I have already refocused and started following my plan that I was supposed to be following all along this year.  Though I had fallen way short of my goals in April and May, I am determined to stay on track these next 12 weeks.  Yes, the plan is to stay on track for the rest of my life, but right now we are focusing on this new challenge.  I loved reading Debbi's reasons for starting this Slimmer this Summer challenge.  She has re-motivated me, not just to lose weight, but to look at the primary reason behind why I want to lose weight.  I need to put the Lord first.  I know this.  I just have failed miserably I am ashamed to say.  But I am thrilled that I have a forgiving Lord, a God who longs to draw me back under His wings.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

I have participated in a program called First Place in the past.  I need to focus on the verse from that program:

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33

I do believe that my life is a witness and, as I saw stated in the comments on Debbi's blog post linked to above, being overweight is a poor witness as it shows that food is my desire instead of the Lord.  I do not want food to be an idol in my life anymore.

Here are my goals for the next 12 weeks.  They haven't really changed much.

*I would like to lose 15 pounds or more.  That is the goal for the Plus Size Bloggers challenge, so I will keep it as my goal, if I exceed it, so much the better.

*Debbi has suggested 10 cups of water a day.  I am going to attempt 9 cups plus the 1 cup of green tea.  That will be one more cup than I had been drinking. (I will attempt to drink two cups before each meal, but I won't be so strict this time)

*I will record the foods I am eating and my water intake.

*I will take an evening walk or step while watching a show in the evening.  I will increase the intensity of the stepping and the lengths of the walks as able.

*I will not eat after supper

*I will limit myself to one sweet a day, preferably during lunch.

*During the last Plus Size Bloggers challenge I lost 14 3/4 inches overall in one month.  During the last 2 months I only lost 6.  When I take into account I didn't lose much weight I would say that was still pretty good.  I would love to lose another 15 inches by the time the 12 weeks are through.

*I will also be praying for my fellow weight loss challengers.

Weight Loss Wednesdays A Day Late, Plus Two New Weight Loss Challenges

I am frustrated and excited at the same time.  I have had another week of not meeting my goals.  I know I have gained weight, I am just not sure how much.  The balance board is once again not working.  The batteries were left in it and it drained them too much again I guess. The last time this happened I had to buy brand new rechargeable batteries, because the charger would not charge them sufficiently enough to be used in the balance board.  So, I now have to use the digital scale, which might work out better, because I noticed one thing about the Wii Board, it was not always very accurate.  It would give me different weights within minutes of each other if it was moved a foot.  Unfortunately the digital scale is a least 2 pounds off from the balance board according to Steven.  I am actually putting this week's weight down as a new starting weight.  That is because I am starting two new challenges for the summer.  Plus Size Bloggers is once again hosting a challenge, and this time there are lots of prizes.  Head on over to join up, the challenge officially starts on June 6th and runs through August 29th.  What kind of goal are you looking at? A loss of 15 pounds in this 12 week period.  Think you can't lose that much in 12 weeks, don't worry, there are prizes just for checking in and tracking your progress.

To help me along the way to making the goal for this challenge I am also going to be joining in on Debbi's Slimmer This Summer Weight Loss Challenge

There are a few more details with her challenge. Here is the low down:
We need to
1. Blog our goals!!
2. Track food and water as it is essential (This is the one I may have trouble with. Anyone have any simple quick ideas for tracking while trying to keep up with 3 little girls?)
3. Watch calories and drink water (I am actually not following this quite as stated as I am still nursing)
4. Get moving!
5. Stay accountable and blog weekly with results.
6. Have fun
7. Challengers should support other challengers.

Head on over to Debbi Does Dieting to check out the details.

I am not sure how to show my weight.  It was obviously a gain. I was snacking, eating after dinner, eating sweets, not getting my water, not drinking my green tea, not exercising.  Which is still bothering me.  I started out May with such high hopes and it was a complete flop. I am going to put the last two months behind me.  April was bad, but May was worse.  And because of the Balance Board not working I am not sure how my weight compares.  According to the numbers I am actually more than I was at the beginning of the May challenge.  If I take into account that my son says the digital scale is usually 2 pounds more than the Balance Board then I ended this month at about the same weight.  From now on I will be using the digital scale for my weigh ins, that way there will be no confusion.  Unfortunately that means no pretty pictures of my Mii.  Oh well.
This is a new start:

Today's Weight (Starting weight for the 2 challenges): 226.4

Total Loss since weight loss journey got serious on December 13th 2010: 35.5!!

I'm also excited because I am going to be guest blogging over at Plus Size Bloggers.
